1. Make Eye Contact. On average, you have less than a minute to make a positive impression on your customer. Eye contact is important.
2. Be Friendly. Smile and acknowledge waiting customers and let them know you will be with them shortly.
3. Be Polite. When ringing up a sale, state the amount and say “Please.” Upon completion of the sale and when giving change say “Thank You.”
4. Offer Assistance. Many times a customer will not be able to locate what they are looking for and will simply walk out of the store. If you see a customer who appears to be looking for something, ask “How may I help you?” In many cases, Street Corner stocks the item(s) that the customer is seeking or your employee can suggest another item (cross-selling).
