Street Corner Express in Jersey City’s Newport Centre to Reopen Under New Ownership

A Street Corner store has been a staple in the massive Newport Centre shopping mall since 2014. The franchised location underwent a change in ownership in late 2019, and is now operated by Nimesh Patel. Coinciding with this change in ownership, the location is getting a revitilization, with new, modern fixtures and signage displaying the company’s recently updated tagline: Street Corner Urban Market. The store is scheduled to re-open in October 2021.

Newport Centre has been a major component of the enormous mixed-use community of Newport in Jersey City, New Jersey, since opening in 1987. Located at 30 Mall Drive West, the establishment attracts shoppers from the greater New York City metro area given its prime location along the Hudson River across from Lower Manhattan. Newport Centre is one of 11 malls in New Jersey managed by Simon Property Group.

At Street Corner, we specialize in mall- and campus-based quick service convenience stores. In fact, we’ve been a leader of this concept since the late 1980s, when co-founder Peter La Colla opened his first store in West Ridge Mall in Topeka, Kansas. Although all stores are in the process of transitioning to displaying the new logo with the “Urban Market” tagline, we now refer to our mall- and campus-based stores as Street Corner Express.
